In the last year they have focused on supplying beef locally in Durham Region. Swainbeef.ca (an online Store) has allowed them to have a farm store open 24 hours 7 days a week with no extra staff.

Scott Graduated from the University of Guelph with a diploma in Agricultural Business in 1998. At this time he started working full time with a local seed company growing, processing and distributing seed to Ontario suppliers and farmers. One year ago, he left Thompsons to pursue an opportunity with Graham Sales & Contracting Coverall Buildings.  He now works from home selling buildings and coordinating projects throughout Central Ontario.  This position nicely compliments his commitments to their family farm.

In 2002 he became a partner in his family farming business. The Swains produce corn, alfalfa, wheat, soybeans and beef. In 2005, the Swains built a new outdoor feedlot to increase production by 300%. Scott and Nicole purchased the family farm in 2006 and were married in 2007.  One of the highlights of their business operation was the May 2008 launch of Swainbeef.ca.  This online store allows the Swains to market their beef directly to consumers in Durham Region.

Scott continues to be involved in the community through the Durham Region Cattlemen’s Association, the Durham Region Federation of Agriculture, Township of Scugog Economic Development Advisory Committee, and Blackstock Men’s Hockey.  He was instrumental in the development of the Farmers Feed Cities campaign in 2005-2006.
